We keep starting this conversation only to have it waylaid. I think its time to have an open conversation about our destination.
I've heard:
1)Tahoe (not my favorite but I'm game if it reaches consensus.)
2)Humboldt County ( most discussion, most egg on my face)
3)Nor Cal (Sounds Quiet and comfortable)
4) Pacific Coast Highway (Most Adventure)
5) A combination of Nor Cal & PCH ( take the PCH to a destination in Nor Cal with random stops?)
6) Geocaching ( I think this could be combined with any of the others)
Lets hear your thoughts?
Both 2 and 5 are items on my bucket list.
Nevada. Bunny ranch. Get somebody laid.
ReplyDeleteRe: PCH- I've driven that road from the Oregon border to Anaheim. It's beautiful but redundant after a while. It's also narrow, curvy and hilly -- better for a roadster than an RV.
ReplyDeleteHow about a day in San Francisco, a day in Wine Country, then hit the PCH to the redwoods and head inland to the Cascades? Maybe swing by Shasta or something.

ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this one. I didn't get to ride the streetcar the only time I was there. Wine Country, Shasta, and the Redwoods. Sounds great.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
ReplyDeleteBen? Charles?
ReplyDeleteHow about Great America, Gilroy Gardens, Legoland, Knott's Berry Farm, and Disneyland?
ReplyDeleteMaybe a tour of California's Buddhist temples?
ReplyDeleteOr, for those of us intent on spending the entire week intoxicated, how about a brewer tour? http://www.sierranevada.com/brewery/california/brewery-tour

ReplyDeleteI find the missions underwhelming. We have a nice big Mormon Tabernacle in the region though!
ReplyDeleteNot really interested in Theme Parks in general. Not interested in seeing Buddhist temples either but it does give me another idea. What about some of the Spanish Missions of California. I.E San Juan Capistrano? They are all up and down the coast so we'll be sure to be near at least one on the way to where ever we go. They've got great histories, beauty and many have fantastic gardens. I admit I've wanted to visit San Juan Capistrano ever since I read about the migration of the swallows as a kid.

In my opinion the Mormon Tabernacles are basically just big Cathedrals. Most are cut from the same cloth and don't need more than 15min viewing unless you are studying architecture. Let's go back to your idea that starts off in San Francisco. I haven't seen Alcatraz yet. I really liked where you were headed with that one.
ReplyDeleteSure. There are plenty of places in The City where we can stop to worship The Devil. :-)
ReplyDelete:) Good one. If you want to worship the devil we should go by that Rosicrucian place you and Carol sent me the first time I came to visit. That was a real head scratcher.
ReplyDelete"Carol" is my Mother In-Law.
ReplyDeleteThat place is Egyptian, not Satanic.
It was your mother In-Law not Cheryl who suggested it and I know just like Mormonism is American not Satanic.
ReplyDeleteStill think the joke about devil worship was a good one.
ReplyDeleteWe can drive to the Church of Skatan in Santa Barbara.
ReplyDelete:)_ Let me guess it's a giant skate park festooned with Skulls and Satanic emblems where everybody bows to Tony Hawks evil twin?

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I just Googled it. Too Funny.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting to hear Ben and Charles weigh in on destination idea. You know one thing I don't think anyone has mentioned is just going Blue Highway. When I was in school is was a term for getting on the old state highway system, No Freeways, and just going with no destination in mind. Just thinking out loud.
ReplyDeleteAgreeing with Chris on this one. Would rather avoid large crowds and theme parks. Would prefer to park the RV and hang out with everyone.
ReplyDeleteFor the record: The theme parks, temples, and constant intoxication were all attempts at humorous provocation. Except the devil worship, which is a pre-requisite.
ReplyDeletePicked that up, except for the theme park idea.
ReplyDeleteDo Joel and Carole have ant suggestions?
... any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI'm not asking Carol and Joel.
ReplyDeleteJoel would obsess over it in absurdly excruciating detail until our return. Carol would suggest only things of interest to her personally. She has a remarkable inability to take the interests of others into consideration.
I'm going to call a vote. I think Erik's idea for "a day in San Francisco, a day in Wine Country, then hit the PCH to the redwoods and head inland to the Cascades" is a good staring point. I'm in. I believe Todd has signaled his approval which gives us a majority. Charles indicated in his recent e-mail that he will "defer to people with really strong opinions on the itinerary--I will be just excited to be there" and Ben continues as a no-commit. I say we start with Erik's idea as a starting point and start planning details. All in favor of "How about a day in San Francisco, a day in Wine Country, then hit the PCH to the redwoods and head inland to the Cascades? Maybe swing by Shasta or something" say Aye!
ReplyDeleteChris- Your assignment is to find an RV park with full hook-ups somewhere in the Napa/Sonoma region. We'll use that as base camp for both San Fran and Wine Country activities. Please confirm availability and cost.
ReplyDeleteIs that an aye!
ReplyDeleteIt's a "we don't need a vote to move forward on exploring our options". Are you on it?
ReplyDeleteSay please.
ReplyDeleteRe: Campground sites I am on it.
